Teachers Using AI Save Nearly 6 Hours Weekly
A new Gallup-Walton Family Foundation survey reveals teachers using AI save an average of 5.9 hours per week - equivalent to six weeks over a school year. Despite this "AI dividend," only 32% of teachers use AI weekly, with 40% not using it at all.
The most common applications include
Lesson preparation (37%)
Creating worksheets (33%)
Modifying materials for student needs (28%)
The research found that teachers who use AI more frequently are also more optimistic about its educational benefits. Schools with AI policies see 26% greater time savings, but only 19% of respondent’s schools have policies in place.
Missouri Leads Proactive AI Integration in Schools
Missouri becomes the 26th state to release AI Guidance for K12. The core document recognizes AI literacy as essential for workforce readiness with a focus on practical implementation and a connection to their existing computer science initiatives.
Like other states, Missouri aligns on core principles of data privacy, academic integrity, and AI literacy. Their guidance emphasizes human oversight and the importance of AI as a tool to enhance rather than replace educators.
Anthropic Wins Fair Use Case But Faces Piracy Trial
A federal judge ruled that Anthropic's use of copyrighted books to train Claude was "quintessentially transformative" and qualified as fair use, marking the first time courts have endorsed this defense for AI training.
However, the company must still face trial over allegedly acquiring books from "shadow libraries" of pirated copies without compensation to authors. The ruling creates a crucial legal precedent that could affect similar cases against OpenAI, Meta, and other AI companies facing copyright lawsuits over their training practices.
ElevenLabs Launches Voice-First AI Assistant for Productivity
ElevenLabs' 11.ai, a voice assistant that executes tasks through natural speech integrated with productivity tools, represents a significant shift toward agentic AI. Rather than fully automating tasks, 11.ai enables voice-first human-AI collaboration where users can verbally manage administrative workflows while maintaining control.
Study Reveals Low Emotional Support Usage in AI Conversations
Anthropic's large-scale research reveals that only 2.9% of Claude conversations are "affective" (involving emotional support), with most users seeking interpersonal advice and coaching rather than companionship.
The study analyzed 131,484 conversations and found people discuss everything from career transitions to existential questions, with emotional tone typically becoming more positive over time.
