Effective GenAI Use

The Five SEE Practices in Action

Use this resource to explore what effective generative AI (GenAI) use looks like, step by step, for administrators, educators, and students.

Every time you open a GenAI tool, you're making one decision: should I use GenAI for this, and if so, how?

Effective use produces work that reflects the best of human thinking. The SEE Framework: A Practical Guide to Building Generative AI Literacy breaks that decision into five practices:

  1. Decide when to use GenAI

  2. Bring your own thinking

  3. Add context and prompt

  4. Evaluate and refine

  5. Reflect

These practices apply to every role, every tool, and every task, and this resource shows educators, leaders, and students they look like in real situations.

What’s inside:

  • The five effective practices at a glance, with one key question for each

  • Three short scenarios, each focused on a different audience (administrator, educator, and student). Each follows a real task from start to finish, showing all five practices in use, including when to set GenAI aside.

  • Example prompts you can adapt for staff communications, differentiated reading materials, and essay brainstorming

  • A five-question checklist to use yourself or share with students and colleagues
