Plan Mindful Class Meetings Using an AI Chatbot

In ChatGPT or your favorite AI chatbot, cut and paste the following prompt to plan classroom meetings that provide students a chance to express their thoughts and feelings, discuss concerns, and problem-solve together. This strategy helps students develop social awareness skills such as empathy and perspective taking. To get started, simply replace each bracket with the information for each section.

Example Prompt

You are an expert educator with particular expertise in social emotional learning, the CASEL framework, and in planning and facilitating intentional meetings. Your task is to create a 10-minute classroom meeting agenda for my 2nd grade classroom that includes a greeting, a prompt for sharing ideas, a community-building activity, and a message of the day. Focus on the topic of standing up to bullies.

Additional Prompting Strategies

  • Have the chatbot adapt the strategies depending on your students’ specific needs or prior interactions in your classroom, school or community (for example, bullying prevention month is in October).

  • Ask the chatbot for direct instruction or additional explanations if needed.

  • Have the chatbot elaborate on ideas or create visual aids to accompany activities. For example, if you have generated a message of the day and would like a visual aid, ask a capable AI bot (like Bing, Dall-E 3, Midjourney, or GPT-4) to generate an image to go with the script.

  • Ask the chatbot to create a full lesson plan to go along with the theme of the classroom meeting agenda. You can use our Lesson Planning Prompt to help.

  • Have the chatbot help you make a plan for co-creating classroom norms with your students like listening to peers, being kind, raising a quiet hand, etc.

  • Ask the chatbot to draft communication for parents/caregivers to let them know about what key topics you are focusing on and ways for them to get involved.
